My Journey as an Intramural Sports Official for Volleyball and Futsal
Working as an intramural sports official for volleyball and futsal has been a transformative experience, filled with growth, learning, and memorable moments. This journey not only helped me develop critical skills like teamwork, observation, and decision-making but also provided a sense of fulfillment through the connections I built and the challenges I overcame.
The Experience
From the very first match, I realized that officiating sports requires much more than knowing the rules. It demands focus, confidence, and quick thinking. Volleyball and futsal, with their fast-paced nature, kept me constantly engaged. I learned to anticipate plays, communicate effectively with players and coaches, and make split-second decisions with clarity.
Key Learnings and Growth
Teamwork: Collaborating with fellow officials and sports staff taught me the importance of communication and trust. Officiating is not a solo job; it requires seamless coordination to maintain game integrity.
Observation Skills: I honed my ability to observe player movements, game dynamics, and subtle infractions. This skill translated beyond sports, enhancing my attention to detail in other aspects of life.
Motivation for Continuous Improvement: The motto to become 1% better every day resonated deeply with me. I adopted a mindset of incremental growth, consistently seeking feedback and learning from each game.
Recognition and Rewarding Moments
Being awarded "Official of the Week" for both volleyball and futsal was a testament to my dedication and growth. Refereeing the final matches, especially, was an exhilarating experience. The intensity of these games tested my skills and composure, and successfully managing them gave me immense satisfaction.
